LAKEPORT ? A Lakeport man hit a pedestrian about 11:30 p.m. Monday on the 1800 block of South Main Street and was arrested just after midnight, Lakeport police stated.

Matthew James Craig, 27, was booked into the Lake County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, Chief Kevin Burke of the Lakeport Police Department said.

“We don”t get a lot of vehicle versus pedestrians in Lakeport,” Burke said.

An ambulance transported the 38-year-old female victim to Sutter Lakeside Hospital where she was later airlifted out of county, Burke said. Police would not release her name and had no update on her condition.

Craig was driving south on Main Street when he allegedly hit the woman, Burke said.

“There is some indication that she was off the sidewalk and in the street,” Burke said.

However, police are still investigating the crash and have not determined Craig”s speed, the car”s location or where the woman was, Burke said. Police are also unsure where both people were coming from and going to.

Craig”s booking detail sheet on the Lake County Sheriff”s Office Web site listed him as a seasonal firefighter. The site lists his next court date as today.
