UPPER LAKE ? A 125-year-old Upper Lake home burned to the ground Wednesday night on Elk Mountain Road.

No one was living in the house at the time, Battalion Chief Pat Brown said.

The Northshore Fire Protection District is investigating the cause of the fire, he said.

Witnesses saw the house intact about 9 p.m. and by the time a neighbor called 9-1-1 at 9:45 p.m., Battalion Chief Jamie Crabtree found the two-story wood-framed house engulfed in flames with no one inside, Brown said.

“It burned for a while,” he said.

The house was the main residence of Vann Ranch in Upper Lake and was worth about $200,000.

Northshore fire responded with three engines, one water tender, one ambulance and three chief officers, Brown said. Lakeport Fire Protection District offered mutual aid with one water tender.

Crews stayed on scene until 2 a.m. Thursday.
