COVELO ? A Covelo woman died Monday from serious injuries she suffered from a Dec. 18 crash while she was allegedly driving drunk with plastic sheeting in place of her driver side window, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Cheryl Whipple, 39, was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, CHP reported.
The other driver, Ashley Britton, 25, of Covelo had minor injuries, CHP reported.
Whipple was driving south on Tabor Lane approaching Foothill Boulevard in Covelo while Britton was driving west on Foothill Boulevard, CHP reported. Whipple turned left in front of Britton. The front of Britton”s car hit the left side of Whipple”s car.
Officers arrested Whipple for drunken driving but released her for medical treatment, CHP reported.
Neither driver was wearing their seatbelts, CHP said. The Covelo Volunteer Fire Department extricated Whipple from her car with the Jaws of Life.
