I am writing in response to Ted Mandrones” letter, “Concerns about Clearlake development.” Ted is urging city officials to “step back” … “with an eye toward thelong-term future” … “rather than the short term gain of low-paying jobs and projected increases in tax revenue.”

Ted, It looks like Clearlake is thinking about the future. I disagree with your view on this. Right now there are not enough jobs. Having a Lowe”s would be a vast improvement over the huge vacuum that currently exits. Think about Clearlake”s young people. Remember when the water park shut down? Come on, the projected tax revenue would be substantial for this area. I think we all know this. Every new business helps.

Let”s all move forward. And Ted, I”m not sure what you mean by low wages. What is your basis of comparison here? A paycheck for a person out of work is a paycheck. It gives confidence and freedom to people. Why would you not want this for Clearlake?

Former Clearlake Police Officer
