LAKEPORT ? Commercial burglaries are on the rise in Lakeport.
Lakeport Police Lieutenant Brad Rasmussen said that “in the last 24 hours a storage shed on South Main Street was burglarized and numerous firearms were stolen.”
Rasmussen said there has been a significant number of burglary and theft related crimes in the last month and a half.
On Dec. 21 four businesses were hit including High Street Caf?, Pet Country, Dish Network, and Lake County Cleaners.
On Dec. 24 Lake County Cleaners was hit again along with Healing Earth on North Main Street. Attempted burglaries occurred at Kerrie”s Quilting and Prestige Tattoo.
The trend began in mid-November when the Kelsey Creek Coffee Company was one of six businesses that one or more burglars hit in a period of four days.
The other businesses included Henny”s Shear Delights, 1st Nails, Irma”s Salon, All About Me Salon, Pet Country and the Anchorage Inn & Suites.
Rasmussen recommends businesses have high-quality locks, good lighting near doors and alarm systems. It is a good idea to empty the business of cash before closing time. The crimes are taking place at night or in the very early morning hours.
Patrols have been increased and the Lakeport Police Department is “putting a big effort into solving all of these crimes,” according to Rasmussen.
Rasmussen said that residents and business owners should be aware of any suspicious activity, such as people walking on property when nothing is open, vehicles parked or driving in areas after business hours and anything that appears to be out of place for the time and location. He says activity should be reported promptly to Lakeport Police Department at 263-5491.
