CLEARLAKE ? Silk”s Bar and Grill in Clearlake rang in the New Year with laughter.

The establishment”s debut event held on New Year”s Eve featured the entertainment of three comedians including HBO comic Sean Peabody.

The trio had their work cut out for them, entertaining a crowd of less than two dozen.

Silk”s owner Andre Williams said comedy shows are tentatively planned for once a month. He said he expects bigger crowds in the future.

“We didn”t have much time to advertise for this show. We just opened on Monday,” he said. “A lot of people told me they wanted to come to the show but they had already made other plans for New Year”s Eve. I think the attendance at our next show will be much better.”

Headliner Sean Peabody was well-received by the crowd. The quaint numbers, he said after the show, allowed him the opportunity to really personalize his act.

At one point, he had an entire scenario crafted characterizing his listeners in a plot involving an elf with a hit contract on this reporter.

Peabody drew laughs with familiar topics such as the hardships faced by youth today compared to that of yesterday. He made light of today”s technology and joked about the recording techniques those in the room were forced to use in the “old days” before iPods and MP3 players. “First you pushed pause. Then you had to push play and record at the same time and wait for the DJ”s cue,” he said, illustrating how he would quiet a room for an old fashion recording.

Supporting performances were delivered by Sacramento comics Patrick Jaye and D. Tyler. Jaye, originally of St. Louis, Missouri opened the show with antics related to real life issues. He warmed the audience up getting acquainted with the crowd, while offering insight into his life as a real estate broker turned cable installation man.

In his act, Tyler reminisced about his childhood and the knock-off brands that he was privileged to as a kid. He spoke of dollar store candies like Three Homies, Butterthumbs and Sugar Baby Daddies. He also joked about economy size cereal that came in trash bag-sized containers.

Silk”s Bar and Grill is open seven days a week at 14825 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake. Operation hours are 10 a.m. to midnight.
