LAKEPORT — Potential jurors packed two courtrooms to fill out questionnaires Thursday in the murder case against two Clearlake men. Questions included whether they could be impartial with testimony from witnesses who used illegal drugs or have gone to jail.

Shannon Edmonds and Melvin Norton briefly appeared in court and will return Thursday for further jury selection after the attorneys review the potential jurors” answers. Attorneys don”t expect trial arguments to start until then or Jan. 26.

Edmonds and Norton allegedly stabbed Shelby Ryan Uehling, 25, of Bozeman, Mont. to death early Sept. 22.

The Clearlake men are charged with murder, assault with a knife, assault with a club, and assault likely to produce great bodily injury. Norton is also charged with accessory to murder. Special allegations accompany Edmonds” charges that great bodily injury was inflicted.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

The jury questionnaire included a list of potential witnesses. The potential witnesses are Michael Carpenter, Sgt. Brenda Crandall, Officer Tim Alvarado, Linda Dale, Valerie Alderman, Michael McKean, Duane Oberle, Gene Thompson, Deputy Bryan Smith, Sgt. Tim Celli, Patricia Campbell, Jackie Shelafoe, Sgt. Tom Clements, Detective Martin Snyder, Investigator Marte Strang, District Attorney investigator Denise Hinchcliff, Lt. Craig Clausen, evidence technician Vicki Estrella, Department of Justice criminalist Linda Senteney, DOJ criminalist Greg Priebe, Dr. Thomas Gill, toxicologist B. L. Posey, Sheriff”s Office employee Patricia McFarland, Deputy James Dunlap.
