LAKEPORT ? A judge told former Lucerne Senior Center director Rowland Mosser Friday he will have his final chance Jan. 29 to secure a lawyer or he will be appointed one.
Mosser will return to court 9 a.m. Jan. 29 for appearance of counsel and to enter a plea. He is charged with two counts of embezzlement and two counts of grand theft exceeding $400. Mosser allegedly embezzled money from the Lucerne Senior Center.
Part-time deputy district attorney Gary Luck had originally filed charges in April 2008 but dismissed them in February 2009 because he decided he needed more accounting expert testimony, District Attorney Jon Hopkins said. Luck filed the charges again Sept. 2.
An officer from the Lake County Sheriff”s Office arrested Mosser Sept. 24 for the second round of charges.
Luck asked the court to move the case forward considering Mosser has had since September to get an attorney.
“It hasn”t been fun,” Luck said.
Defense attorney Mitchell Hauptman appeared specially in the case. Hauptman told the court Mosser is trying to close a deal that will give him some commission. Mosser was released on bail and is no longer in custody.
