LOWER LAKE — A 27-10 second quarter propelled the Lower Lake Trojans to an easy 72-49 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Friday night in the North Central League I North opener for both of these varsity boys” basketball teams at Lower Lake.

“It was a huge quarter,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said.

Leading 17-9 after one period, the Trojans took all the suspense out of this one with a balanced scoring attack that impressed even Udy.

“We”re doing a better job of sharing the ball,” Udy said. “We were penetrating and getting some easy fast breaks. And (Jaymen) Richardson was all over the place.”

Richardson scored 11 of his team-leading 18 points in the second quarter.

“But we had lots of contributions off the bench,” Udy said. “The balanced scoring came in the flow of the game.”

Lower Lake”s defense also played well, according to Udy.

“The coaches are really happy with our play at both ends of the floor,” Udy said. “Our rotations were solid all night.”

Richardson completed a double-double by pulling down 10 rebounds and he also had six assists.

“He and (Gage) Carlson have really stepped their games up,” Udy said. “And we”ve been getting solid contributions around them.”

Carlson finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Joe Taylor, Nick Steward and George Novak added eight points apiece and Scott Zandt had seven.

Lower Lake (1-0, 11-6) is just one victory shy of doubling its win total from last season.
