LOWER LAKE — With Max Huff and Mike Allen leading the way, the Kelseyville Knights were able to overcome a 16-point first-half deficit and stun the Lower Lake Trojans 76-74 in overtime on Tuesday night in Lower Lake.

Huff scored 24 points and pulled down 23 rebounds as the Knights improved to 1-1 in the North Central League I North varsity boys” basketball standings. Lower Lake missed a chance to move into sole possession of first place and fell to 1-1.

“It was a disappointing loss for us,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said.

Lower Lake, now 11-7 overall, had a six-point lead with 1:20 left in regulation before Kelseyville rallied to force the overtime period. Both teams had a chance to win the game in the final seconds of the fourth quarter but Lower Lake turned the ball over setting up for a final shot and Kelseyville”s Peter Wotherspoon missed a 5-foot runner in the lane as time expired.

“I thought he was going to hit it,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said.

Kelseyville went on to outscore Lower Lake 12-10 in the overtime period and Huff led the way with eight points.

“We”re a totally different team when Huff and Allen play like they did tonight,” Conrad said.

Allen finished with 10 points but also played well on the boards.

“They pounded the boards and got some putbacks in the second half, all at critical times,” Udy said.

The Knights also went 15-for-16 at the free-throw line after the first half, including 8-for-8 in the overtime.

Yet another factor, according to Udy, was a season-high 14 points by Brandon Lindsay, who also had four 3-pointers, three coming in the fourth quarter when the Knights outscored the Trojans 26-18.

Wotherspoon finished with 15 points to give the Knights four players in double figures.

Gage Carlson”s 23 points, nine steals and eight rebounds led Lower Lake. Joe Taylor added 18 points and 15 rebounds while Jaymen Richardson had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Kelseyville is 8-9 overall.
