SONOMA — Although he has not been found, Bryan Scobey, 35, has been taken off the missing persons list.

Scobey, a 1992 graduate of Lower Lake High School was reported missing on Jan. 13 along with the work truck he was driving. According to Sonoma County Sheriff”s Office (SCSO) the work truck has been located; however, Scobey”s whereabouts are still unknown.

Scobey was reported missing when he failed to return to The Hitmen Termite and Pest Control”s operation office at the end of the work day on Jan. 13. The disappearance of Scobey was deemed suspicious and became a missing person”s case with investigation delegated to detectives in the Violent Crimes Unit.

According to Sgt. Tim Duke, investigative leads took detectives to the city of Yreka in Siskiyou County. “Detectives worked with local law enforcement authorities and ascertained that Mr. Scobey arrived in Yreka on the 13th,” Duke said. “He allegedly stopped in Yreka on his way to Portland, Oregon. Mr. Scobey was traveling by himself, driving the company vehicle and appeared to be in good health.”

According to Sgt. Dukes, Scobey ran out of money while in Yreka. He allegedly sold tools and other items off the company vehicle belonging to the pest control company. “On Friday night, the 15th, Mr. Scobey allegedly befriended an unwitting subject to drive him to Reno, Nevada,” Sgt. Duke stated. “The subject agreed, and in exchange for driving Mr. Scobey to Reno, the subject was told he could keep the Hitman Terminator company truck.”

Sgt. Duke said that Scobey is no longer considered a missing person. However, detectives are actively seeking Scobey”s whereabouts for the embezzlement of a company vehicle and items that he allegedly sold without permission. Sgt. Duke said that the company vehicle has been returned to Scobey”s employer as have the tools and other items that were allegedly sold or bartered.

Sgt. Duke was unavailable for further comment as of press time Friday.
