MIDDLETOWN — Skyler Olsen scored a season-high 28 points and teammate Kendra Schwegerl also turned in a solid performance as the Kelseyville Knights spoiled the North Central League I North debut of defending champion Middletown with a 61-26 victory at Middletown High School.

Olsen had six assists to go along with her season-high point total as the Knights improved to 2-1 in the North standings and 12-7 overall. Schwegerl added 13 points and eight rebounds.

“Schwegerl had 10 in the first quarter,” Kelseyville coach Caitlin Andrus said. “She”s playing with much more discipline, you can see it in her eyes.”

Kelseyville opened the game in a man-to-man defense and led 15-11 after one quarter. The Knights switched to a zone defense in the second quarter, which hurt the Mustangs (0-1, 3-14).

“I think we were like 4-for-29 from the field in the first half. And in the second half it wasn”t much better,” Middletown coach Marnin Pyzer said. “They took away the baseline and it was tough for us. Kelseyville played a good game.”

Pyzer said Olsen, who scored 14 points during a 22-5 third quarter, did an outstanding job.

“She was fastbreaking and penetrating,” Pyzer said. “That girl was going the whole time.”

Jodie Mitchell and Alexis Rockwell led the Mustangs with seven points apiece.
