CLEARLAKE — A truck driver noticed a red light too late in the fog, slammed on the brakes and crashed into a van about 8:10 a.m. Thursday on Highway 53 at Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake, Clearlake police said.
Acting Sgt. Carl Miller said the 1994 white Ford Aerostar driver of Clearlake and passenger of Spring Valley went to the hospital for back and neck pain. The truck driver was not injured.
Miller would not release the names of the people involved.
The truck driver of the empty cattle carrier hit the brakes, slid and crashed into the back of the Aerostar, causing major damage to the back of the van, Miller said.
Fire crews transported the people in the van to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake.
Miller said the truck driver was going too fast for conditions and made an unsafe turn.
