LAKEPORT — Former Lucerne Alpine Senior Center director Rowland Mosser pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of embezzlement at the senior center.
Two public defenders said they had a conflict in the case and Judge Richard Martin appointed Ken Roush, who was not present, to defend Mosser.
Mosser is charged with two counts of embezzlement and two counts of grand theft exceeding $400.
Part-time deputy district attorney Gary Luck had originally filed charges in April 2008 but dismissed them in February 2009 because he decided he needed more accounting expert testimony, District Attorney Jon Hopkins said. Luck filed the charges again Sept. 2.
An officer from the Lake County Sheriff”s Office arrested Mosser Sept. 24 for the second round of charges.
Luck said he will talk with Roush about the case and expects the preliminary hearing with eight or nine witnesses to take two or three days.
Mosser waived time and will return to court 1:30 p.m. March 5 for appearance of counsel. He was released on bail and is no longer in custody.
