KELSEYVILLE — Closing out the first half of their North Central League I North schedule at 3-1, the Kelseyville High School varsity girls” basketball team faces a big week ahead.
Led by 20 points from Skyler Olsen and nine points and five assists from Monique Santana, Kelseyville overwhelmed Fort Bragg 58-26 on Friday night in Kelseyville, setting the stage for three critical games next week, all with North Coast Section Division IV playoff ramifications.
On Tuesday, Kelseyville travels to Willits (4-0) to take on the North-leading Wolverines, 54-50 winners over the Knights in the league opener for both teams on Jan. 15 at Kelseyville. On Thursday, the Knights return home to face NCL I South defending champion St. Helena (the game was rescheduled from Jan. 2), and next Friday, Kelseyville visits its other primary North contender, Lower Lake (2-2).
“We”re focusing everything on Willits,” Kelseyville coach Caitlin Andrus said. “It”s not going to do us any good to think past Willits.”
Against Fort Bragg, the Knights took care of business early on as they built a 27-12 halftime lead. That advantage grew to 47-19 after three quarters.
“Despite what the score shows, it was a physical and intense game,” Andrus said.
Ashley Mueller had eight points and a team-best nine rebounds for the Knights, who received solid contributions off the bench from Ashley Johnson, Liz Berry and Amanda Ray.
“Ashley did a great job on defense. She”s only 5-2, but she”s super quick and comes out everyday and works her butt off at practice,” Andrus said.
Kendra Schwegerl had four points and eight rebounds for Kelseyville, now 13-7 overall.
