It is gratifying to hear about the response from our country to the crisis in Haiti, especially when so many people here are themselves hurting financially. At the recent telethon, those donations alone totaled over $50 million.
It will also be important to all of us to be assured that these and other donations are being properly used ? not to learn months from now about the mismanagement or appropriation by a few people who were able to take advantage when emotions ran high. This has happened often enough in the past to make people wary of contributing to a worthy cause.
