CLEARLAKE — Lake County Fire Protection District had its hands full early Sunday morning with back-to-back blazes in the Clearlake area. The first fire destroyed a motor home on Dam Road while the second consumed a stick-built home on Lakeview Avenue.
“The first fire didn”t appear to be suspicious but the second fire is still under investigation,” LCFPD Battalion Chief George Murch said.
According to Murch, personnel were dispatched to the 16300 block of Dam Road at approximately 4:05 a.m. Sunday. He said the blaze was fully involved upon arrival and that it basically destroyed a motor home that was located behind a residence. The fire threatened an out building as well as the home. Murch said a pet was possibly lost in incident.
“By the time we got it knocked down we got dispatched to a structure fire on the 15000 block of Lakeview Avenue,” Murch said, which was at approximately 4:50 a.m.
Murch said several reports on the second fire came in. He said the first report advised flames showing near Mendo Mill. “While en route we were advised of large flames seen with Mendo Mill threatened. We were then advised, while still en route, that there was possibly a disabled person inside the residence,” he said. “There was no one inside. It was a vacant house.”
Murch said that about 15 firefighters worked to contain the blaze, including those providing mutual assistance from the Lower Lake station and from CALFire. “When I arrived on scene flames were already through the roof. We were able to get it under control in about 20 minutes,” he said. “It appeared that the fire ran through the attic and pretty much consumed the whole house.”
Murch said units remained the on scene of the Lakeview fire until approximately 1 p.m. Sunday.
