MENDOCINO COUNTY (MNG) ? According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal two car head-on collision on Highway 20, killed one and injured four others on Saturday at 11:15 p.m. A portion of the highway near Marina Drive was closed until 1:48 a.m. on Sunday. It”s unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

The CHP and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection both responded to the accident.

A 1997 Ford van was traveling on Highway 20, westbound, west of Marina Drive at about 60 miles per hour. The second vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Silverado, was traveling eastbound at about 50 miles per hour. For unknown reasons, according to the CHP, the driver of the Ford allowed the vehicle to drift out of the westbound lane and move into the eastbound lane, causing a “head-on.” The driver sustained fatal injuries. She was 41-years-old and from Lower Lake.

In her van at the time of the accident were two passengers, a 27-year-old man from Redwood Valley and a 20-year-old woman from Finley. The man complained of chest pain and the woman sought her own aid but complained of pain to her left hand.

In the Chevy, the driver, a 45-year-old man of Williams sustained minor chest pain and his passenger, a 29-year-old woman, sustained moderate pain to her entire right side and neck area.
