MIDDLETOWN ? Three days after losing to Fort Bragg 46-39 in Fort Bragg, the Middletown Mustangs answered with a 39-37 victory on Monday in North Central League I North varsity girls” basketball action at Middletown.

Middletown (1-4, 4-18) used a 10-2 fourth quarter to notch its first North win of the season and snap a seven-game losing streak.

“The girls were pretty excited,” Middletown coach Marnin Pyzer said. “You would have thought we won the league championship.”

Jodie Mitchell”s 12 points, most of them on putbacks following offensive rebounds, powered the Mustangs.Rachel Sutton and Jenny McGee added six points apiece.

Middletown lost 46-39 to Fort Bragg on Friday in Fort Bragg. As in Monday”s rematch, the fourth quarter on Friday proved decisive as the Timberwolves outscored the Mustangs 20-5 in the period to pull out the victory.

“It”s nice to return the favor,” Pyzer said of Middletown”s fourth-quarter comeback on Monday.

Middletown trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter before mounting its comeback.

“Both teams are pretty equal,” Pyzer said.

Middletown hits the road tonight to play Kelseyville and returns home Friday to face Lower Lake.
