UPPER LAKE — Ryan Richardson moved past Paige Dumont as Clear Lake”s all-time boys” scoring leader and the Cardinals beat the Upper Lake Cougars 72-55 in a North Central League I South varsity basketball game on Tuesday in Upper Lake.

Richardson scored 28 points as the Cardinals improved to 4-3 in the South standings and 11-14 overall. He has 1,361 points, besting the school”s old record of 1,349 by Dumont. Jenny Schaal is Clear Lake”s all-time leader with 1,485.

Upper Lake (0-6, 5-19) dropped its ninth straight despite getting 11 points apiece from Billy Armstrong and Tyler Warren and another 10 from Brandon Bills.

“My guys played hard and got outplayed, it”s as simple as that,” Upper Lake coach Forrest Stogner said.

Leading 16-15 after one quarter, Clear Lake pulled away with a 25-14 second quarter.

Richardson had 11 of his points in the opening period.

Warren led the Cougars with 10 rebounds and Mike Cox added nine points, seven rebounds and five blocks.
