Regarding the current debate over the trial of the Sept. 11 terrorists, I am incensed to learn that $200 million has been pledged toward security during the trial. At a time when so many Americans are suffering economically, lack of employment and health care, problems too numerous to list ? why should undue money be spent for this trial? Will it bring back any of the victims or ease their families” grief after nine years?

The Sept. 11 attacks were intended to send a message to the United States, not just to New York and Washington. Why are such criminals extended undue consideration when their fanaticism was meant to endanger, defy and demoralize all of us?

It is time to move this trial along and pick a site in mid-America offering a minimum of accommodation for the usual media circus as well as other hangers-on. This might discourage further adjournments, continuances and the like. The form of justice that generally works for Americans should be good enough for those who would harm our system and is more than they deserve.
