NAPA COUNTY — The Napa County Department of Agriculture found the European grapevine moth, an invasive species that feeds on flowers and fruits, in the Oakville region of Napa County. The moth has never before been detected before in the United States.
The department is working with USDA and the California Department of Food and Agriculture to trap and survey to see if there are additional moths and larvae, the Lake County Department of Agriculture reported. The moth primarily feeds on the flowers and fruit of grapes, but also feed on olives, blackberries, cherries, nectarines, persimmons and pomegranates.
The Lake County Agriculture Department will have a meeting to discuss its response and detection plan for the moth from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Finley Grange at 1510 Big Valley Road in Finley.
