LAKEPORT ? Robert “Glenn” Roe of Lakeport helped developmentally disabled adults live happy lives, a client”s mother said.
Jan Baker of Kelseyville said she was sad to hear he died on his way home in a car crash Tuesday.
“He was just a wonderful person,” Baker said. “He changed the life of my daughter and the other clients. I don”t know how they will survive without him.”
Roe died about 8 p.m. Tuesday after an alleged drunken driver tried to pass a big rig around a blind curve on Highway 20 west of Witter Springs Road and crashed into him head-on, the California Highway Patrol reported. Roe was pronounced dead at the scene.
Daren K. Norman, 44, of Tracy was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for major injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, CHP reported.
Roe was the owner and director of Covenant Supportive Living that helped developmentally disabled adults, mostly in Ukiah, Baker said.
He took his clients camping to Clear Lake State Park every summer to go boating as well as to concerts and parties, Baker said.
Roe helped Baker”s daughter, Kristin, to become part of the community in Ukiah by arranging for her accommodations and offering a daytime program.
“He just saw to it that they had a nicer and happier life,” Baker said.
Roe”s family declined to comment Thursday.
Baker said Roe used to play electronic keyboard with the Chubby Checker band at gigs in Lake County and San Francisco.
“He was very talented,” she said.
