UPDATED:

I found a lot of irony in Lowell Grant”s latest opinion piece about the politics of demonization.

He starts off his column by demonizing the Tea Party movement by describing participants as “teabaggers.” Does Mr. Grant have any inkling that the terms “teabagging” and “teabagger” are references to a sexual practice too vile to describe in a family newspaper? So much for having an open mind and listening to the growing number of people who are legitimately concerned with the direction of the country. Demonize them.

Someone needs to remind Mr. Grant that Bush has been out of office for over a year and that no president can authorize spending. That authority rests with the Congress. Republicans lost control of Congress in the 2006 elections because of overspending and corruption. So instead of identifying the party that has been continuing to overspend over the last four years he demonizes Bush and the Republicans. The present Congress and president have no blame in accelerating spending and debt. It”s all Bush”s fault.

Mr. Grant, read you own words, “It”s a sad commentary on America”s mentality that we can no longer see each other as good, decent, patriots who simply disagree. That might lead to dialogue and compromise which is impossible when the other side is demonized.”

I find Mr. Grant”s columns to be a weekly screed of demonization. Again Mr. Grant, read your own words.
