Service ? a thing of the past? — Part II
That being said, within three days of the utility company nightmare I had my next lovely experience.
I had quite a large donation to make to one of our area thrift stores.
This is the same store I take all my donations to and have never had a problem, up until this time.
I had this thought that I was actually doing something good, you know, a good deed sort of thing. Isn”t that the whole point of donating?
This is where it leads me to wonder why people have to be so rude and arrogant. I went into this well-known thrift store and was not greeted by anyone inside, so I started my own chatter. Upon hearing that I had bags to donate, one woman whom I”m assuming was the leader of the pack, looked at me like I had just made a threat.
I then tried to keep it light and said that if she told me I could not leave my bags of clothes, very cute ones I might add, then I would cry because I had just spent about 24 total hours clearing out my house. Apparently, she didn”t think I was funny. This is what she replied with, “Do you see the mounds of bags we already have to sort though here?”
Okay … well … I was actually ready to turn and leave at that. She then proceeded to ask me if I could come back tomorrow and I said no, this was the only day off I had this week. She asked me how many bags I had and if she could look in my car. So out we went and at this point I was more than a little ticked off at her aggressive and rude behavior toward me.
After one look in the back of my car I could tell she wasn”t about to take it. So I shut the door and left. I heard somewhat of a “sorry” after that but of course I tuned it out because there was no meaning behind it.
I understand less and less why it is that these people keep their jobs. I work in customer service where I deal with people every day, many of whom are angry about something on their account. If I treated them like these other people treated me, I”d be out of a job.
Why is it so hard for people to just be nice? Where is the person- to-person contact, rather than being treated like a nuisance or an irritation? We do not have much of a choice with the utilities around here but the other local businesses we do.
Why should we choose to support a business that treats it”s customers like manure? I, for one, will no longer tolerate such behavior.
For the propane company I mentioned earlier, I wrote to their corporate office about their employees and how awesome they were to my family and I intend to write on behalf of the other two women mentioned, as well, but for a completely different reason.
This, coming from me, who never takes the time to actually follow through on a complaint.
Times have changed, and so have I.
I will not be treated so poorly by these establishments any longer and if they want to dish it out then they better be prepared to reap what they sow.
After having been so bothered by these latest events and a few more very similar, with other local companies, it leads me to wonder if these individuals are so starved for affection in their own lives that they feel empowered to belittle anyone they come into contact with or do I always seem to time it just right to get the full-on release of their personal PMS? We shall never know … but please handle with caution.
