STEVINSON — Playing the tough Stevinson Ranch Golf Club on Monday during the annual Hilmar Tournament, the Kelseyville High School golf team finished 13th in the 22-team field.

With a par of 72 and a course rating of 75.6, Stevinson Ranch is “one of the toughest courses in California,” according to Kelseyville High School coach John Berry, who said the venue hosts U.S. Open qualifying.

Any kind of round on any kind of course is what the Knights needed after holding only two practices because of inclement weather in Lake County the better part of the last month, according to Berry.

“It was a good experience for us,” Berry said.

Each of the five-man teams counted only the best four scores in determining a team total. Escalon topped the field with 340, Bret Harte and Ripon Christian tied for second with 350, and Tracy and Turlock Christian tied for fourth with 351. Kelseyville finished with 380.

Leading the Knights was Wyatt Ferrell with 91 and Peter Wotherspoon with 94. Tyler Drake carded a 96 and Brandon Walker had 99.

Low round of the day went to Julian Woodfork of McClatchy High School with 75. One shot back were Tyler Leeworthy of Galt and Griffin Kelley of Merced with 76.

Kelseyville hosts Mercy High School of Red Bluff on Wednesday at Adams Springs Golf Course. On Thursday, the Knights open their Coastal Mountain Conf-erence South schedule at Mount St. Helena Golf Course in Calistoga.
