UPDATED:

On Feb. 25 I attended the Clearlake City Council meeting. The main agenda item was the Lowe”s project. There was a large gathering of concerned citizens both for and against the project. Prior to citizens” comments Mayor Thein”s instructions were each citizen had three minutes to state their case.

In attendance were supervisors Smith, Comstock and Rushing. Neither Smith or Comstock addressed the council. Rushing came to the dais and introduced herself as Supervisor Rushing, but she said was not there as a supervisor, only as a concerned citizen. She then proceeded to lecture the council on how redevelopment money should not be used on the Lowe”s project, which she doesn”t support.

In no way am I suggesting Rushing should not be allowed to address the council on this or any matter. Of course she should. What I am saying is there was no need for her to state her position as supervisor; as a concerned citizen would have been adequate. I have faith in our elected officials of the Clearlake City Council and I”m sure that they can decide what”s best for our city. In the future I would suggest that Supervisor Rushing devote her time with issues in her district and our city council will handle ours.
