The screed by Lowell Grant attacking D.M. Farris is a black mark on the Record-Bee itself. Grant should reply to a letter to the editor with a letter to the editor, if he should reply at all.

Using the Guest Commentary “Alternate Current,” whatever that means, column to castigate an individual who was upset enough to write him is not at all proper, and the use of terms like “lack of courage,” “lack of name” and “lied” is inappropriate in any venue.

If one can”t address the issue without attacking the person, then put it in the trash bin.

Grant is close to overstepping the bounds of free speech (wide as in a letter to the editor) and entering the area of libel (narrow as in columnist for the Record-Bee, as is stated at the end of the article).

I am not addressing the content of the letter, only the inappropriate response. I do not know D.M. Farris. I think you failed to properly edit out the remarks that border on libel, and this is not the first incident of this.

P.S. It was The Record-Bee that chose to publish a letter to the editor using only initials for the person”s given name.
