With the great weather we”ve been experiencing, I hooked up a makeshift shower outside on a brick patio that I recently completed. In my excitement to try it out, I tacked up a couple of sheets for privacy and I also wore some shorts. The experience was so great that I told my dad and his caretaker, who visits him for a few hours three times a week, with great enthusiasm. In addition, I went down to Piedmont Lumber for some more substantial fencing (privacy).

Yesterday, at about 4 p.m., I was enjoying an afternoon shower. My neighbor caught my attention and asked, “Are you showering?” to which I replied, “Yes.” I saw this person shake their head in a disapproving way.

Later, I grabbed some bricks to elevate the fence even higher. Still later, a police officer notified me that he had actually received a complaint about my shower. Furthermore, the officer notified me that what I was doing was illegal and that I could go to jail. Surprised, I began planning a full-scale privacy fence to be constructed as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, escalation of non-communication, separation, isolation and barriers are the rule rather than the exception.
