LOWER LAKE — The Trojan All-Stars are ready and waiting to take on the Harlem Wizards Thursday evening in the gym at Lower Lake High School (LLHS). The second annual event will help raise much-needed funds to continue athletic programs at LLHS.
“Last year”s event sold out. Nobody wants to miss this exciting event,” LLHS Athletic Director Gary Logoteta said. “People are still talking about last year”s game.”
According to Logoteta, a total of $25,000 is needed to fund transportation expenses for all sport programs for a single academic year. “It”s going to provide some moneys for transportation costs,” Logoteta said. “With schools all over dropping sports programs, this is going to help Lower Lake keep its program alive.”
Logoteta said there is a dynamite team in place to take on the Wizards and the game should prove to be quite exciting. “We have some current players and some former players lined-up to take down the Harlem Wizards on Thursday night,” he said. “Our team is hyped-up and they are ready to take on anybody that comes their way. They aren”t afraid of the Wizards. They should bring their A-game and we don”t want to hear any whining when the game is done.”
The Trojan All-Star team consists of LLHS Vice Principal James Woods, LLHS teachers David Graham, Jeremy Stock and Cheryl Yates; LLHS students/basketball players Jaymen Richardson, Gage Carlson, Quin Udy, Tashee Denson, Veronica Wilder and April White; Clear Lake High School Basketball Coach Glen Wienke; Middletown basketball player Mike Mullin; and LLHS alumni Joseph Noel, John Ryan and Barbara Watson.
Thursday”s event will include the Pogo”s Pizza Half-Court Shot. Three tickets will be drawn at halftime and ticket holders will have a chance to shoot for $100. “If they make it, they get 100 bucks and if they miss it, they will still get two of the best pizzas around,” Logoteta said.
Event sponsors include Foods, Etc, Chernoh Excavating, Crossroads Church and Best Western El Grande Inn. “The generosity of these community leaders is making this event possible,” Logoteta said. “We can”t thank them enough.”
Advance tickets are currently on sale at Foods, Etc., Pomo Elementary School and Lower Lake High School. Tickets are priced at $8 for seniors and students and $10 general admission. An additional $2 will be charged at the door. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the game will begin at 7 p.m.
