KELSEYVILLE — A fire that started in the garage of a house about 4:47 p.m. Saturday on the 4600 block of Kaweah Road in Clear Lake Riviera lit propane tanks, causing big pops some neighbors assumed were explosions.
Battalion Chief Joe Huggins of the Kelseyville Fire District said crews are still investigating the cause, but that there wasn”t a big explosion.
When crews arrived about four minutes after being dispatched, flames consumed the garage and extended to the house and the attic, Huggins said. Fire crews had the fire under control in about 40 minutes and spent about two and a half hours on scene.
“What wasn”t affected by the fire was damaged by smoke and heat,” Huggins said. “It”s close to a total loss.”
People were in the house when the fire started, but got out safely and went to a neighbor”s, Huggins said. One resident tried to put out the fire and was burned on the arm and thigh with hot plastic. No one else reported injuries.
Three Kelseyville fire engines, one battalion chief and one Lakeport fire engine responded to the fire, Huggins said.
“It was good to see they got out and got the pets out,” Huggins said. “Everything else is replaceable as far as I”m concerned.”
