PETALUMA — On a blustery, chilly and rainy day throughout the North Coast, the Lower Lake High School softball team was the only survivor ? as in the Trojans were the only Lake County sports team not to be rained out.
“That”s the good news,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said.
And the bad news?
That would be the final score, at least from the perspective of the Trojans, who dropped a 12-0 non-league decision to St. Vincent on the Mustangs” new all-weather field in Petaluma.
Lower Lake (2-6) managed just one hit against St. Vincent pitcher Jennifer Eastham, a one-out single in the top of the third inning by Mirella Valencia. The Trojans loaded the bases in the inning but came away empty.
Alyssa Garcia (2-for-3) homered for St. Vincent.
“They hit it solid, but we didn”t play very good defense,” Sherrell said.
Losing pitcher Kristen Garcia struck out four and walked four.
“I think we”re a better team than that, but the girls have to believe it,” Sherrell said.
