MIDDLETOWN — The idea of consolidating the two elementary schools in the Middletown Unified School District was brought before the board on Wednesday. According to Korby Olson, district superintendent, the idea has been dismissed.

“We looked at this as an opportunity to consolidate the elementary students on our two elementary school campuses. There are academic opportunities at Cobb Elementary that students at Minnie Cannon aren”t getting,” Olson said. “It really wasn”t a money saving issue, it was an academic issue.”

Olson said the idea was discussed among administrators, who thought the idea worthy of presenting. He said after considering the option, the school board decided to take idea off the table.

“In looking at it, there was a lot of concern on the part of the community,” he said. “The group from the community brought up some good points and some other good ideas. So, we will have a group looking at how to bolster the opportunities at Minnie Cannon so they are getting the same opportunities as other campuses.”
