LAKEPORT — Lake County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to waive construction traffic road fees related to projects of Lake Marine Construction. A total of $470 in fees was waived in relation to three marine construction projects.

The request for waiver of fees was brought forth by Lake Marine Construction owners Michael and Denise Hagy. Hagy said that the company receives about two to three road shipments per year; however, the majority of transportation of materials is conducted by barge on the lake.

“We are already paying Lakebed Management fees,” Hagy said. “We are spending a whole lot more money going in by barge.”

Fee waivers were requested for marine construction projects located at 9355 Bass Road in Kelseyville, 9955 Highway 20 in Glenhaven and 13319 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing said she didn”t have any problem waiving the fees in this particular case but did question the adequacy of the fee structure itself indicating that it appears to favor use of out-of-county suppliers.

District 2 Supervisor Jeff Smith said that the business was a unique type of operation and that granting the request for waiver of fees would not set a precedence.
