KELSEYVILLE — Congressman Mike Thompson came to town bearing gifts.

Toys for Kids donated mountains of coloring books, two bicycles and a slew of toys to the Freedom House Domestic Violence Shelter in Kelseyville on Tuesday.

Toys for Kids provides toys for children whose families are in financial need during the holidays and Christmas came early for the children who are, and will be, residing at the shelter.

During Thompson”s visit, he toured the now complete facility.

“What”s neat to know is how much good happens because of this place,” Thompson said.

“It”s an amazing transformation,” he said as he walked through the furnished rooms that have pictures on the walls and handmade quilts and afghans on the beds.

Executive Director of Lake Family Resource Center, Gloria Flaherty, said the residents “treat it like it”s their own home. While they are here, it is their home.”

The Freedom House has eight rooms and 40 beds available to victims of domestic violence and their children.
