By the third grade I knew that persuading folks to believe me required facts, mathematics and reason. I have since been astonished at the miracles that leftists can accomplish by simply declaring a new truth.
Al Gore, who was literally raised in a Washington hotel room, glanced at the sky and saw a growing ozone hole. We spent $60 billion dollars fixing that miracle.
Foretelling next week”s weather requires the most profound mathematics and advanced computers known, but Al looked ahead 50 years and saw a new miracle, man-made global warming.
Just when they needed them, leftists produced flocks of spotted owls nesting only in trees that shut down sawmills and put loggers in homeless shelters. Their newest miracle is schools of smelt requiring eliminating irrigation and killing miles of orchards and farms in San Joaquin Valley.
Half my youth was spent working hard-scrabble farms north of New Orleans. These farms were owned by us poor rednecks, brown-skinned Sicilians and blacks. The Sicilians married Rednecks, turned from brown to white and missed out on their miracle. Teenage pregnancy among whites was 5 percent, among blacks only three percent. Blacks were decent people with tightly bonded families ? natural Republicans with freedom granted by Republican Lincoln. Their miracle came later from Democrats and Lyndon Johnson.
In New Orleans I lived in a slum dividing white and black neighborhoods and my paper route stretched across both. Our relationship with blacks: I was malnourished and ragged, with toes sticking from my shoes. Those old mamas would pick me up, hug me and sometimes give me an extra nickel. They were decent, hard-working people. With Johnson”s Great Society and War on Poverty, blacks abandoned farms and swarmed into the city for government support. Government dependency turned teenage daughters into sluts with 87 percent pregnancy and fathers into deadbeat dads and prison-filling criminals. That brought a new miracle; blacks vote 96 percent Democrat.
In order to produce another miracle, Obama moved the Census Bureau from the Commerce Department to the White House. A lot of the census questionnaire is spent separating Hispanics. Why? Mexicans are bright, decent, hard-working people with tight families, brown-skinned people who are mostly thought of, and think of themselves, as white. Democrats believe If Obama can single them out for benefits and convert them from brown to black on perpetual government support the Democrats can never lose another election. We will go to the one-party system of the Soviet Union.
