LAKEPORT — In a first doubles match that could have gone either way, Josh Alvarado and Glenn Mostin outlasted Humberto Perez and Jeffrey Mulligan 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (11-9) to lift the Kelseyville Knights to a dramatic 3-2 Coastal Mountain Conference tennis win over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Friday in Lakeport.

“That was probably the most exciting match I”ve seen in a long time between the two schools,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said.

Clear Lake had leads of 8-7 and 9-8 in the third-set tiebreaker but Alvarado and Mostin rallied back to win the match, snapping the 2-2 team score.

“It was the final match of the day,” Hayes said. “We had every opportunity to win it.”

Kelseyville also won in second doubles where Nils Mostin and Monique Santana beat Tamara Rojas and Chloe Rojas 6-3, 6-0.

In singles action, Clear Lake picked up wins in No. 2 singles as Tony Valdez beat Alex Stempe 6-3 6-3, and in No. 3 singles as Hayden Gilbert rallied to defeat Stephen McQueen 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Kelseyville”s Moses Kuzu beat Nate Secrest 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles.

The Knights improved to 6-0 overall and are 4-0 in the CMC standings.

Clear Lake plays four times next week. The Cardinals are home Monday against St. Helena, away at Cloverdale on Tuesday, home Thursday against Willits and home Friday against Cloverdale.
