I was out of town last week and when I returned I learned many people were unhappy with the article published by Katy Sweeny, staff reporter with the Record-Bee, regarding the Tea Party organization. After reading her article, I feel she has clearly missed the mark.
It is shameful for anyone to use profanity and racial slurs; it is shameful to spit at or on anyone at any time. It is also shameful to assume these actions as true, when they are still unfounded, even by the Washington Post. But mostly, it is shameful to take the assumed act of one person and transfer it”s connotation to a whole group of people representing thousands, nationwide.
The Tea Party organization is made up of people, throughout this great nation, who have worked hard, raised their children and paid their taxes for the past 40-plus years. They have not, as a whole, been the recipients of the benefits and entitlements for which their tax dollars have paid. They are now of an age to receive the one benefit they have paid for themselves, monthly, for their entire working care ? Social Security. Oops, all gone! And, yes, we are angry.
We are angry that Congress has spent our money. We are angry to see that Congress continues to spend, spend and spend money they do not have, without any regard to the consequences to future generations. We are angry that they won”t listen to us. We may be loud and vocal, but we certainly are not being disrespectful when we clearly and non-violently voice our anger.
