LAKE COUNTY — The California Newspaper Publishers Association has awarded first-place recognition to the Lake County Record-Bee for editorial commentary.

CNPA awarded 480 first- and second-place awards for the 2009 Better Newspapers contest at its annual meeting Friday night in Monterey. Nearly 4,000 entries from newspapers across the state entered their best work in 28 categories and nine circulation divisions.

The Lake County Record-Bee competed in its division against other daily newspapers with 10,000 circulation or less. It received first place for an editorial that was published Oct. 18, 2008.

“It is very gratifying to have an editorial I wrote selected to be first place in the state within our size of daily newspapers,” Record-Bee publisher Gary Dickson said.

The Lake County Record-Bee was also named as a finalist for its Arts & Entertainment coverage in 2009. The A&E section appears each Thursday in the Record-Bee.
