LAKE COUNTY — A vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a van sent one to the hospital Sunday around 4:45 p.m. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Steven Tanguay, Vargas Trejo, 37, of Middletown was driving southbound on Highway 29 in a Mercury Voyager Van. He was stopped waiting to make a left turn onto Bradford Road when he looked in his mirror and saw that there was a motorcycle traveling southbound approaching his location.

“It appeared to Trejo that the motorcycle was not going to be able to stop in time before it got to the van,” Officer Tanguay said, adding that Trejo moved the van forward to create more space for the motorcycle.

Darren Deberry, 51, of Oakley, continued his travel toward the van on his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Tanguay said the front of the motorcycle struck the rear of the van and Deberry was ejected, landing in the roadway.

Deberry was transported via CHP helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Tanguay said no one in the van, including the six juvenile occupants, was injured. He said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision, which is being investigated by Officer Domby.
