LAKEPORT — Lakeport City Council members voted 4-1 Tuesday to adopt a wastewater Recycle Feasibility Study Report.
Councilwoman Suzanne Lyons voted no because she said she needed more than three days to review the report to approve it.
The study looked at the feasibility of treating wastewater to a standard that will allow the city to reuse the treated water in place of treated ground and surface water, said Mark Brannigan, Community Development and Utilities director. The report analyzed Lakeport”s wastewater treatment and disposal needs to identify how they could be met more effectively through wastewater reuse, in turn reducing the need to construct new water treatment and wastewater storage facilities.
Brannigan said he and staff had hoped to move forward to find grant funding and meet with Congressman Mike Thompson to get wastewater recycling support.
Councilman Bob Rumfelt made a motion that followed staff”s request but it was voted down, 3-2.
The council addressed three issues during its meeting Tuesday in Lakeport City Hall.
Council members unanimously accepted an application from the Latinos United of Lake County to have a cultural community event from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 2 in Library Park.
The council unanimously approved a request by Mike and Phyllis Stevenson for access to their property from a city parking lot between Fourth and Fifth streets.
