?Tom Jones” in rehearsals in Lakeport

LAKEPORT — Lake County Theatre Company and Mendocino College are teaming up to present the world-famous comedy “Tom Jones.” Performances will take place during the first two weeks in June at the Little Theatre at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

Based on the novel by Henry Fielding, playwrite David Rogers has pulled together a fast-moving plot that tears through the countryside of 18th-century England, ending in “lewd and lacivious” London.

LCTC publicist Suna Flores describes “Tom Jones” as “a slightly naughty English tale, starring a slightly naughty young man (Tom) who loves the women. They love him back. Their men folk … not so much. Sword fights and fist fights and evil lie-telling ensues, of course, making this a play of action. Men and children will love that part. Women in the audience will love the romance, beautiful hoop-skirted dresses and the lady-like duel between ?proper decorum” and youthful love.”

Tickets will go on sale in May.
