LOWER LAKE — Slap hitter Whitney Edens led off the game with a home run and the Cloverdale Eagles beat the Lower Lake Trojans 12-0 in a five-inning North Central League I interlock softball game on a windy Wednesday in Lower Lake.

Edens feigned slap and took a full swing, driving the ball deep to right field.

“It was pretty impressive,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said.

Cloverdale pitcher Kena Ruiz allowed only two hits, both singles — Maria Copas” leadoff single in the bottom of the first and a second-inning single by Isabell Azbill. She struck out four and didn”t walk a batter.

“We hit the ball pretty well,” Sherrell said. “We struck out only four times.”

After Copas opened the Lower Lake first with a single, Mirella Valencia bounced into a force play. Christine Powers followed with a line shot that Cloverdale turned into an inning-ending double play.

Freshman Amanda Graf made the start for Lower Lake, going the distance. She struck out three and walked 10.

“She showed some toughness out there,” Sherrell said.

Graf took a liner off her hip in the top of the seventh, recovered the ball and threw on to first base to record the out.

Lower Lake resumes its NCL I North schedule on Friday in Middletown at 4 p.m.
