LUCERNE — Sheriff”s officers found a man lying on the ground bleeding and another holding a towel over the stab wounds when they responded to a report of a fight about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday at trailer in Lucerne.

A REACH air ambulance took Eugene Basurto, 33, to an out-of-county hospital for his injuries, Capt. James Bauman of LCSO said.

Officers later arrested Samuel Thomas Robbins, 35, on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff”s deputies responded to an anonymous report of a physical fight in progress at Space 21 at Lucerne on the Lake mobile home park, Bauman said. Both Basurto and Robbins initially told deputies they did not know who attacked Basurto.

North Shore Fire Protection District personnel responded and coordinated a landing zone at Lucerne Harbor for an air ambulance, LCSO reported.

The Sheriff”s Major Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation that continued through Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Bauman said. Detectives got enough information to secure a search warrant for Robbins” residence. They found a bloody knife, among other evidence, in the home.

Officers booked Robbins into the Lake County Jail Thursday on a no-bail hold. Detectives are still investigating the case for a possible motive, Bauman said. The department did not have an update on Basurto”s condition.
