LAKEPORT — Minus two of their top players, both on a jazz band field trip, the Clear Lake Cardinals fell 3-2 to Willits in a non-conference tennis match on Thursday in Lakeport.

“It was a non-league match, so it doesn”t hurt us,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said. “It was a great day for tennis.”

Clear Lake”s wins came in No. 3 singles, where Humberto Perez beat Jeremy Roberts 6-3, 6-0, and in second doubles, where Travis Thorn and Gabby Reyes, playing together for the first time, notched a 6-2, 6-2 win.

“They did a great job,” Hayes said.

Tony Valdez fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in No. 1 singles, Hayden Gilbert dropped a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 decision in No. 2 singles, and Darcy McCarrick and Chloe Rojas lost 6-2, 6-2 in first doubles.

Clear Lake hosts Clo-verdale today at 4 p.m.
