LAKE COUNTY — A fire that started from a cigarette, burned a house to the ground at 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Antler Hill Road off Wildcat Road, Kelseyville fire stated.
An occupant tried to extinguish the cigarette in an ashtray outside and disposed of the ashtray remains on a wicker bench that ignited and moved to the house, firefighter paramedic DJ Kennedy of the Kelseyville Fire Protection District said.
When the first engine arrived on scene, the house was engulfed in flames and the fire was soon venting through the roof. None of the occupants were injured in the fire. Kennedy said people should make sure cigarettes are extinguished and left on something nonflammable.
CalFIRE responded with two engines, Kelseyville Fire, two engines and two water tenders on scene, Lakeport with one engine and a Lake County water tender.
