Where is the proof?
Katy Sweeny”s column of April 10 has several factual errors. She states that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver was spat upon. No one can prove this to be a fact. One person has even offered $100,000 for anyone possessing photographic proof, but no one has come forward. Can you imagine how many cameras were trained on that march and nobody has the proof. Besides that, there were Capitol Police standing next to him and even they have yet to say anything. The representative has since changed his statement to say the man”s saliva got on his face, not that he was spat on, and even the n-word has not been proven. The press would be all over it if one person came forward with proof.
The Washington insiders have said the march by our Representatives was a bit unusual. One wonders, was this a setup knowing that the majority of the protesters were Tea Party people.
I personally think the biggest disrespect was shown by our representatives with the backroom deals and the manipulation of the rules. The American people have stated, in poll after poll by a 5-4 margin, they did not want the Health Care Bill. When Phil Harris (D), Rep. Ill., says in regard to Health Care Bill, “We don”t worry about the Constitution” and Rep. Hastings says “we make the rules up as we go,” that really bothers me as it should everyone. These representatives took an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to ignore it. Reach down and ask yourself if this is the way we want the USA to be run? Polls also show representatives of the House and Senate have a 60-percent-plus disapproval rating. Do they really deserve our respect?
I think we have all experienced a situation where one person has ruined a party but to paint the 99 percent of the rest of the people as disrespectful is not right. When someone labels the Tea Party (and me) as vile, two-bit, narrow-minded nut jobs, that is more disrespectful than what happened on the Capitol steps.
