LAKEPORT — The Lake County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday that an investigation into an Animal Control officer”s alleged violations of neglect and malnutrition dealing with a horse was insufficient.
Susan Cannon, chair of the Lake County Animal Care and Control Advisory Board, told supervisors the Mendocino County animal control investigation of alleged violations by Terri Flynn was poorly done. The investigation found no violations.
Chairman Anthony Farrington said the board started an independent investigation into the case.
County counsel Anita Grant said the investigation should be finished this week and that the Sheriff”s Office will likely investigate with the intent to have the District Attorney”s office take the case.
Supervisor Denise Rushing and other board members agreed Animal Control officers should be more accountable on animal care issues than the general public.
“I believe they should be held to a higher standard,” Rushing said.
The board addressed a number of issues at its Tuesday meeting in Lakeport.
Board members unanimously approved a resolution for the application of a United States Department of Agriculture”s Rural Development Community Facilities Program for the Middletown Library and Senior Center.
The board approved an amended agreement with the Lake County Hunger Task force to use property behind the Nylander Park restroom for gardening that doesn”t include growing medical marijuana.
Supervisors voted 5-0 to offer an amended resolution agreement with the USDA to provide an animal damage control program for the county if the cost stays the same as last year”s $81,000.
Geoffrey Neill of the California State Association of Counties gave the board a presentation on the state budget and the association”s programs and services.
Supervisor Jim Comstock issued a proclamation designating Monday to May 8 as Wildfire Awareness Week in Lake County.
Rushing presented a proclamation designating May as Watershed Awareness Month in Lake County.
Board members voted 4-1 to allow the Child Support Services main telephone line to transfer to an out-of-county call center.
Farrington voted no because he said he didn”t think the line should leave the county.
