CLEARLAKE — IMPACT Training and Lakeshore Bait & Tackle are teaming up with the California Department of Fish and Game to offer a hunter safety class. The quarterly class is scheduled for May.

“We live in a community that does a lot of hunting,” Lakeshore Bait & Tackle Owner Bob Rider said. “Mike Pasco, our area game warden, teaches this class for us. He truly is a world class hunter himself. It”s a real unique opportunity.”

Rider said that a hunter safety class is required to get a first-time hunting license in the State of California. He said the class being offered works well for children ages seven and older, depending on learning ability. The class is beneficial for adults as well, he said.

Rider said the class will cover such topics as the history of hunting, hunting and firearms safety, archery, ethics, conservation/preservation and game management. “They will also be learning about how bag limits are established and carrying capacity and why hunting is necessary to the sustainability of species.”

The class will be held in five sessions and all sessions must be attended to complete the course. Those wishing to participate can register at Lakeshore Bait & Tackle, 14913-D Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake. The class will be held in the new IMPACT Training facility next door to the bait shop. Rider said parents are welcome to sit through the class with their children.

Class fee is $5 per person, due at registration.
