CLEARLAKE — San Joaquin Drive, from Carter Road to Mendocino Drive in Clearlake Park will be closed for slide repairs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Motorists are advised to use Lakeshore Drive as an alternate route.
The estimated cost of the project is $5,000, which is being funded through road maintenance funds.
“We”re going to build the slide area up to grade and eliminate the k-rail,” Public Works Superintendent Doug Herren said. “This will open the road back up to lanes again.”
Public Works Crewman Chuck Davis will lead the project. Konocti Conservation Crew No. 27 has been contracted to assist in the project.
“We”re realizing a real cost break using the conservation crew inmates,” Herren said. “They will be building a sack wall in the slide areas to prevent erosion. The inmates will be placing the sacks of concrete and driving rebar through the sacks to secure the site.”
Herren said that there are two areas of concern on San Joaquin that will be repaired.
Due to limited in staff in the Public Works Department, Herren said members of the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) unit will be assisting with traffic control. He said Clearlake Police will also be standing by to ensure all traffic laws are obeyed through the construction zone.
